Should We Tithe?

Sermon Alive| Category: Arise & Build, Biblical Economic, Tithe | 19 Comments

I do not know about you but there are times in my life where I wonder whether money is really important and the only source to my survival in this world, to move from one day to another, to pay for all my bills, to feed my family, and etc. There are times when I have to make some important decisions as to whether to forego all the potential of earning some big income over time loss with my family. Do I give all 10% of my income to tithing or use it for paying my expenses? I am sure God will understand if I don’t give my tithe this month. All these are questions that have rambled through my mind in the past until I found out what God has to say about money, tithing and the purpose they serve. Seek the truth and the truth shall set you free. May this article sow the truth and purpose of tithing beyond just giving back to God what He has given us in the first place. (more…)

THE POWER OF SERVANTHOOD – Part 7

Sermon Alive| Category: servanthood | 2 Comments

When God wants a revival, He sends a man or a woman out – a person whom He can promote and give authority to rule. John the Baptist was an example of one such man sent out by God to prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah – John 1:6. You have to be someone that God can use to change the world. In Ephesians 3:18, Paul prayed that we “may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height” of God’s love which surpasses knowledge of men. If you love God, you will want to serve Him. Jesus loves us and He serves us to the very end.

Servanthood has to do with love and it moves in 4 directions:

  1. Depth
  2. Height
  3. Width
  4. Length (more…)

THE POWER OF SERVANTHOOD – Part 6

1. Handling The Little Things

Luke 16:10 (NKJV); He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.

Are you a detailed person? Details determine your destiny. Take Moses for example. He was told to lead the people out of Egypt and he is a man given to details. Four times the bible says (two times in the Old Testament and two times in the New Testament) that Moses built the tabernacle exactly down to the very exact details God wanted. Moses was a man given to details. King Solomon was chosen to build the Temple of God. When Queen Sheeba went to see the Solomon Temple, she saw the details and the beauty. Her heart became opened to God. She saw the quality materials used to build the temple, the way the food was prepared, and everything was neat and tidy. She saw the orderliness and the way the priests ministered to the people. She saw the sharpness in the way the people dressed in the house of God, even the staff around Solomon. You can say who cares how I dress on Sunday to church. Slobby dress means slobby attitude and slobby church. We dress well for His glory as we represent God. Queen Sheeba was so overwhelmed by what she saw that her heart was opened to God. We want people to see Christians dressed well, behaved appropriately, a sense of excellency around us and that draw them to us. (more…)

THE POWER OF SERVANTHOOD – Part 5

But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you, but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Mathew 20:25-28

In the previous parts of the article on the Power of Servanthood, we mentioned that to many, being a servant is a belittling job and it lowers their status in life. However, Jesus has a different opinion about being a servant to His believers for when we get to heaven, He is only going to say, “Well done, my great and faithful servant.” He mentioned the word “servant” time and again to His disciples and He even set Himself as an example by washing their feet. To this, He told all His disciples to do likewise for each other. We are called to serve God and His people. If we are not serving God, then we better take a seat back and review our lives. Are you making somebody’s life better today by serving them here on earth? (more…)

3. Servanthood is the Key to Destiny

15 And it happened, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, came out with her pitcher on her shoulder.
16 Now the young woman was very beautiful to behold, a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the well, filled her pitcher, and came up.
17 And the servant ran to meet her and said, “Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher.”
18 So she said, “Drink, my lord.” Then she quickly let her pitcher down to her hand, and gave him a drink.
19 And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.”
20 Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
21 And the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
22 So it was, when the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a golden nose ring weighing half a shekel, and two bracelets for her wrists weighing ten shekels of gold,

Genesis 24:15-22

We have looked at servanthood being the key to promotion and authority. Now, we will look at Servanthood being the key to destiny. Let go to Genesis 24 where we will look at Abraham wanting a wife for his son, Isaac. So he sent out his oldest servant who ruled over Abraham’s household to look for a girl. This is a beautiful story of our times. God, the Father, is a picture of Abraham. Issac is a picture of Jesus the Son. God wants a bride, a generation of believers for His son, Jesus Christ. And He sent out His servant, the Holy Spirit, which is a picture of the oldest servant, looking for the bride for His son. So the servant walked throughout the land, looking for a girl for Isaac.
