Should We Tithe?

Sermon Alive| Category: Arise & Build, Biblical Economic, Tithe | 17 Comments

I do not know about you but there are times in my life where I wonder whether money is really important and the only source to my survival in this world, to move from one day to another, to pay for all my bills, to feed my family, and etc. There are times when I have to make some important decisions as to whether to forego all the potential of earning some big income over time loss with my family. Do I give all 10% of my income to tithing or use it for paying my expenses? I am sure God will understand if I don’t give my tithe this month. All these are questions that have rambled through my mind in the past until I found out what God has to say about money, tithing and the purpose they serve. Seek the truth and the truth shall set you free. May this article sow the truth and purpose of tithing beyond just giving back to God what He has given us in the first place. (more…)

THE POWER OF SERVANTHOOD - Part 7

Sermon Alive| Category: servanthood | 2 Comments

When God wants a revival, He sends a man or a woman out – a person whom He can promote and give authority to rule. John the Baptist was an example of one such man sent out by God to prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah – John 1:6. You have to be someone that God can use to change the world. In Ephesians 3:18, Paul prayed that we “may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height” of God’s love which surpasses knowledge of men. If you love God, you will want to serve Him. Jesus loves us and He serves us to the very end.

Servanthood has to do with love and it moves in 4 directions:

  1. Depth
  2. Height
  3. Width
  4. Length (more…)

THE POWER OF SERVANTHOOD - Part 6

1. Handling The Little Things

Luke 16:10 (NKJV); He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.

Are you a detailed person? Details determine your destiny. Take Moses for example. He was told to lead the people out of Egypt and he is a man given to details. Four times the bible says (two times in the Old Testament and two times in the New Testament) that Moses built the tabernacle exactly down to the very exact details God wanted. Moses was a man given to details. King Solomon was chosen to build the Temple of God. When Queen Sheeba went to see the Solomon Temple, she saw the details and the beauty. Her heart became opened to God. She saw the quality materials used to build the temple, the way the food was prepared, and everything was neat and tidy. She saw the orderliness and the way the priests ministered to the people. She saw the sharpness in the way the people dressed in the house of God, even the staff around Solomon. You can say who cares how I dress on Sunday to church. Slobby dress means slobby attitude and slobby church. We dress well for His glory as we represent God. Queen Sheeba was so overwhelmed by what she saw that her heart was opened to God. We want people to see Christians dressed well, behaved appropriately, a sense of excellency around us and that draw them to us. (more…)

THE POWER OF SERVANTHOOD - Part 5

But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you, but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Mathew 20:25-28

In the previous parts of the article on the Power of Servanthood, we mentioned that to many, being a servant is a belittling job and it lowers their status in life. However, Jesus has a different opinion about being a servant to His believers for when we get to heaven, He is only going to say, “Well done, my great and faithful servant.” He mentioned the word “servant” time and again to His disciples and He even set Himself as an example by washing their feet. To this, He told all His disciples to do likewise for each other. We are called to serve God and His people. If we are not serving God, then we better take a seat back and review our lives. Are you making somebody’s life better today by serving them here on earth? (more…)

3. Servanthood is the Key to Destiny

15 And it happened, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, came out with her pitcher on her shoulder.
16 Now the young woman was very beautiful to behold, a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the well, filled her pitcher, and came up.
17 And the servant ran to meet her and said, “Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher.”
18 So she said, “Drink, my lord.” Then she quickly let her pitcher down to her hand, and gave him a drink.
19 And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.”
20 Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
21 And the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
22 So it was, when the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a golden nose ring weighing half a shekel, and two bracelets for her wrists weighing ten shekels of gold,

Genesis 24:15-22

We have looked at servanthood being the key to promotion and authority. Now, we will look at Servanthood being the key to destiny. Let go to Genesis 24 where we will look at Abraham wanting a wife for his son, Isaac. So he sent out his oldest servant who ruled over Abraham’s household to look for a girl. This is a beautiful story of our times. God, the Father, is a picture of Abraham. Issac is a picture of Jesus the Son. God wants a bride, a generation of believers for His son, Jesus Christ. And He sent out His servant, the Holy Spirit, which is a picture of the oldest servant, looking for the bride for His son. So the servant walked throughout the land, looking for a girl for Isaac. 2. Servanthood is the Key to Authority.

If you want influence and authority, then be like Jesus, be the servant of all. Go with me to Luke 19:16-17. Here, the master gave authority to the servant over ten cities for his job well done. Where is the authority over? It is not just over your family, your children or over a shop, it is over ten cities. Note here it is said, “well done, good servant” and not “well done, great CEO, Pastor, Reverend” and so forth as I have mentioned earlier. The first servant was awarded ten cities or ten nations. This is what it is all about. When you served, you are guaranteed authority. (more…)

Three things about Servanthood

1. Servanthood is the Key to Promotion

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth,
11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
13 For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
14 Do all things without complaining and disputing,
15 That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.

Philippians 2:5-15

Verses 5 -7 tells us that this attitude must be in you just as it was in Jesus. This is the mind of Christ. Promotion doesn’t come by your actions. It starts with your attitude. Your attitude determines your altitude. People get promoted not just because of your skills or because of your excellent academic results. If you are going to reach the high office, it all starts with your attitude. This is the attitude and mindset of Jesus Christ who is our model, our example and our Saviour. (more…)

THE POWER OF SERVANTHOOD - Part 1

Sermon Alive| Category: servanthood | 2 Comments

1 Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him,
3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,
4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.
5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
6 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”
7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”
8 Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
10 Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean, and you are clean, but not all of you.”
11 He knew who would betray Him, therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”
12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?
13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15 for I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.
17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

John 13:1-17

Servanthood is not a word that not everyone understands, appreciate and willing to accept in their lives. To the world, the word “Servanthood” is a belittle and degrading word. No one wants to be a servant. Everyone wants to be someone great, mighty, powerful, popular and authoritative. But to Jesus, the word “Servanthood” has a totally different meaning. It is a word filled with power and authority if you understand the true meaning behind it. We will take a look at Servanthood according to the Bible and the power it brings to those who understand and practice the acts of Servanthood in their Christian walks. (more…)

BUILT TO LAST - Part 6

Sermon Alive| Category: Arise & Build, Market Place, More than conqueror, Personal Revival | 5 Comments

The Value of the World

Romans 1:29-31; (NKJV) being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful.

2 Timothy 3:1-4; (NKJV) But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.

When we do a comparison between the values of the Ten Commandments against the values of the world system, you will find that the world’s system teaches you the opposite from the word of God. Romans 1:29-31 says that those who do not build on the values of God, will be filled with all kinds of evilness.

Romans 1:29-31 and 2 Timothy 3:1-4 are descriptions of the values of the world. In 2 Timothy 3:1-4, Paul was talking about the Ten Commandments. When you break any of the Ten Commandments, you do not honour God. (more…)

BUILT TO LAST - Part 5

Sermon Alive| Category: Arise & Build, Market Place, More than conqueror, Personal Revival | 0 Comments

Where do these ten values come from?

These ten values come from the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:1-17 as mentioned earlier. Let make reference back to the ten values against the Ten Commandments.

Exodus 20:1-17

1. Exodus 20:1-3
Love the Lord thy God = the values of Loyalty

2. Exodus 20:4-6
Worship no other gods = the values of Commitment

3. Exodus 20:7
Not to take God’s name in vain = the values of Respect

Not to be presumptuous, proper honour

4. Exodus 20:8, 10-11
Honour the Sabbath day = the values of Accountability

The seventh day is the day that God has set aside for rest. It is during the Sabbath that you worship God, be connected back to God, reports to Him the events of the weeks and the things to come, and to hear from God what you should do in the coming six days. (more…)
