BUILT TO LAST - Part 6
The Value of the World
Romans 1:29-31; (NKJV) being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful.
2 Timothy 3:1-4; (NKJV) But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.
When we do a comparison between the values of the Ten Commandments against the values of the world system, you will find that the world’s system teaches you the opposite from the word of God. Romans 1:29-31 says that those who do not build on the values of God, will be filled with all kinds of evilness.
Romans 1:29-31 and 2 Timothy 3:1-4 are descriptions of the values of the world. In 2 Timothy 3:1-4, Paul was talking about the Ten Commandments. When you break any of the Ten Commandments, you do not honour God.
Take a look at the comparisons below God’s values and the world’s values:
1. Exodus 20:1-3
Love the Lord thy God = the values of Loyalty
World System - haters of God, whisperers, backbiters, unrighteousness, men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, blasphemers, traitors
2. Exodus 20:4-6
Worship no other gods = the values of Commitment
World System – deceit, backbiters, lovers of money, blasphemers, without self-control
3. Exodus 20:7
Not to take God’s name in vain = the values of Respect
World System – Proud, Boasters, unthankful, despisers of good
4. Exodus 20:8, 10-11
Honour the Sabbath day = the values of Accountability
World System – undiscerning, headstrong, haughty
5. Exodus 20:9
Six Days you shall labour and do all your work = the values of Hard Works
World System – inventors of evil things, evil mindedness, lovers of pleasures
6. Exodus 20:12
Honours your father and mother = the values of Family
World System – Disobedient to parents
7. Exodus 20:13
Not to commit murder = the values of Love
World System – murder, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful, violent, brutal
8. Exodus 20:14
Not to commit adultery = the values of Faithfulness
World System – sexual immorality, strife, deceit, unholy, lovers of pleasures
9. Exodus 20:15-16
Not to steal nor bear false witness = the values of Integrity/Truthfulness
World System – untrustworthy, maliciousness, slanderers
10. Exodus 20:17
Not to covet your neighbour’s possessions = the values of Generosity
World System – covetousness, full of envy, lovers of money
The Values Of Having Value
Why do we need all these values?
1. V – Visible.
They form your identity. If you are an organization that has values, you become visible to the eyes of the public. You have an identity for people to refer to. It makes you different from others. It separates you from the norm. Believe in hard work to progress yourself.
2. A – Attract.
Values are like magnets. They attract people who are willing to come and work in the organization with great values they can relate to. If they like the organization and the values, they will be glad to give and to contribute to the growth of the organisation.
3. L – Lead.
They are like compass. They will lead you to the right direction. When you lost focus or get too busy, the values will lead you back to the right path again.
4. U – Unite.
They are like glue. They unite us together. No one can break us or divide us.
5. E – Establish.
They are like the foundation. Something solid to build upon. And when you fall, it will hold you up.
6. S – Standards.
It is like a ruler. There is a measurement. There is a standard.

This reminds me of the scriptures that make reference to: “… therefore, choose life, that you and your seed might LIVE…” but I’m exhausted, and can’t remember where it’s at in my Bible - and I’m too tired (and lazy) at the moment to get up and look!
But thank you for the awesome Word!

Dear kimbathewhitelioness:
I believe that you refer to the following verse?
Deuteronomy 30:19 (New American Standard Bible):
“I call heaven and earth to witness….that I have set before you…the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants.”
May GOD ALL MIGHTY Bless you, and the Author of this masterpiece, always and forevermore!

Many people have lost site of values, or do not even have any at all. Nice post about the importance of values, why we need them, and where we should get them from.
Kimba, there is a search tool that you can get, so that you don’t have to search through your Bible every time. I have one on my forum, and you can get on at: Biblegateway.com/usage/form
