The Six Laws Of Abundance – Part 6
6. The Law of Purpose
When the farmer sows his seeds, he sows it into the ground with purpose. It will be very silly for the farmer to throw his seeds on good ground, on rocky ground, into the drain and everywhere. God doesn’t want us to sow without purpose and to throw carelessly what He has given us.
Galatians 6:7-9 tells us “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destructions; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
First, we do not sow. Then, we do not sow the right things. Now, we sow without purpose. Many of us give tithes without a purpose, without prayer and planning. Just as what Galatians says, what we sow, we reap. If you sow your tithe to the mission funds, then you must pray and ask God for harvests. We are to expect a harvest from God if we sow financially into it. There must be a harvest that comes out of our sowing at the end of the day. If you sow into a soul, you will reap a salvation. If you sow in the spirit, you will reap eternal life. After you sow, you must fertilise it with prayers constantly until the time of harvests. The next time you drop your tithes into the bag, pray and expect God to work wonders with the tithe as it is being used to sow into someone else’s life and God’s works.
When you sow into the fields of souls, expect a harvest of souls to be saved. This is sowing with finances and with your spirit. Do not give up easily with tithing and prayers. Do not do it out of motion or simply for the sake of obeying the bible. In heave, there will be no bank accounts. We do not transact in money anymore. We transact in souls. Try imagining when you are in heaven and a small African boy walks up to you to thank you. You are surprised. You may be thinking “I have never been to Africa and I do not know this boy”. The boy tells you that because you provides for a missionary couple to make it possible for them to go to Africa to preach, hence he was saved from their good works. How awesome it will be to know that your sowing has reaped harvests elsewhere! So, sow and expect a harvest! Sow and expect someone else’s life get improved! Sow with a purpose!
Conclusion
Finally, Proverbs 23:4-5 tells us “Do not wear yourself out trying to get rich. Have the wisdom to show restraint. Cast but a glance at riches and they are gone. For they will sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.”
Hence, do not tire ourselves out trying to get rich. Money is not the ultimate answer to life and it is not worth losing your soul for it. If God blesses you with wealth, use it wisely for His kingdom and give generously to those in needs. For those who are wise and follow God’s principles, God will put more into their hands to be His steward for they will glorify God with what they do with the wealth. If the wealth is not used wisely, it will be taken away by the devil just as what Proverbs says “it will sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle”.
Wealth that comes from God is a blessing; “The blessings of the Lord make one rich, and He adds no sorrow to it”, Proverbs 10:22.
2 Corinthians 9:10-11; “Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
To conclude, we have to ask ourselves, “What are seeds for?” It is for sowing. What is sowing for? It is for a harvest. What is harvest for then? So that we can be generous! Generosity is for what? It is for God’s glory.
John Wesley once said, “Earn all you can. Save all you can. Give all you can.”
Let us apply the laws of abundance into our lives, sow what has given to us, and expect to reap a harvest of eternity.
In the next articles, we will look at the blessings that tithing brings. It is more than just financial returns from God for our investment in His works. He has a far greater plan, more than we can imagine or know.

thanks for sharing this. this just made me realize something about tithing. i’m a faithful thither but it seems like i’m not getting the breakthrough i want. maybe, i’m not really expecting it the way i should.

I have been following this article on ‘tithing’. It makes me ponder and reflect on the attitude of my heart as I tithe to God. Indeed, in the new convenant, tithing is given willingly from the heart as God loves a cheerful giver, one who gives with no expectations or hesitation. Pia, sometime, we need to examine our hearts on the purpose on giving. Are we giving so as to expect God to give us what we desire or are we giving as one who comes to the great King with our gifts as an honour to Him? I examine my heart and my motives on giving, tithing and even offering. I want to check myself so that I do not fall into judgement or sin before God. May God show you the purpose of your tithing. David, keep up the great message on tithing and giving from the heart!

After all the good things which have said I cannot see how anybody can condlude that the NT teaches tithing to the Church in any fashion whatsover.
NT giving is (1) freewill, (2) sacrificial, (3) generous, (4) a heart response, (5) motivated by the HOly Spirit and (6) out of a desie to see souls added to God’s kingdom.
OT tithing was (1) mandatory, (2) only from farmers and herdsmen, (3) only from inside Israel, (4) feelings were not involved, (5) never used to pay for missionaries, (6) an integral part of the cermonial cultic statutes and ordinances of the Law of Moses and (7) never given to the Church after Calvary in terms of grace and faith.
If you want to see which produces more money, set up two car washes at church. Mark one $1.00 and mark the other “Free or donations accepted.” Grace out gives law every time. — Don’try to market blessings and threaten curses to non-givers. Believers have died to that kind of goofyness. Romans 7:4

Very interesting R E K. I would agree that grace outgives. Have you done this said experiment before? Yet, I’m not convinced the results would be the same outside the church parking lot.

It does not matter whether or not it works outside of the church parking lot because we are talkig about church donations.
Consideer this also. Barack Obama has “enough money to go on politicing indefinitely.” Why? He preaches HOPE in a better future and people give sacrificially. The church has lost that. It should be preaching HOPE FOR A BETTER FUTURE through salvation in Jesus Christ — it is a far better hope.
Do we need to teach tithing in order to succeed? No. No. No. Obama is not asking for tithes. John MacArthur does not ask for tithes. Moody Bible Institute, Dallas Theological Seminary, Wheaton College and Talbot Seminary do not teach tithing but they are doing well. Tithing is not the secret for success — evangelism is.

This is a very good topic, thanks for sharing. I have experienced God’s blessings when I started to give tithe regularly. Surely, we cannot outgive God, the more we give cheerfully and prayerfully, the more we receive. God bless you and your family. Keep on sharing the Good News.

Russell, you seem to be missing the point of Brother David’s sharing on tithing here. As far as I read, he didn’t insist that tithing is compulsory. But instead, rather interestingly enough, he went beyond by looking out of the box about tithing. In the NT, Jesus did not abolish tithing. If he did, he would have torn up the tithing box while watching people going into the temple to place their offering to God. From there, He preached about giving freely out of the heart based on a poor woman who gave only two pence. It will be rather interesting if you look beyond “preaching tithing is wrong” but rather looking at why God did not abolish tithing but allows it to continue. Have you ever thought of it being a system that God has set in place for people to give freely to the poor through the church and to the church workers who are serving the needy? There are people out there with money but do not know how and where to give. But they can see with their own eyes the fruits of labour through outreach and helping the needy and poor. Since you say that evangelism is the secret for success, how many are faithfully sharing the Gospel of Good News to people around them or unsaved family members? Are you doing it? Tithing may not be the secret of success for you. But it may be so for those who gives with a cheerful and faithful heart knowing that each single cent they give whether to church or to other charity organizations, they know that God is watching both the giver and the receiver. Tithing may not be your way. But I sure hope you are giving through other ways to bring the Gospel to the lost.

I like your point Amore. People have different gifts, which doesn’t mean that we are not supposed to do what God says (like spreading the Good News), but when we give to certain ministries, we also help reach out to others, which we normally may not be able to do.
The pharisees were very religious. Jesus did not rebuke them for tithing, but for their hypocrisy. On the outside they appeared to be clean, yet on the inside they were not.
I understand where you are coming from R E K, as I have heard various teachings on tithing. And while it may not be required, I enjoy doing it because I realize that what I have is not going to stay with me. I’m not taking it anywhere, and I could buy a lot of things that I don’t really need, whereas by giving it to the needs of the Church, it is more likely put to great use, that will hopefully have some eternal impact.

Jesus could not possibly have taught his Jewish disciples to stop tithing because the law was still in full effect. If he had tautht his diciplels to stop tithing then he would be sinning and would have to die for his own sins.
MNt 23:23 is a discussion of “matters of the law” because the scribes and Pharisees “sit in Moses seat” in 23: 2 and 3. That is the context inspired by God..
On the other hand Jesus could not possibly have told his Gentile disciples to tithe. They had no place to bring them where they would have been accepted.
the OT taught that anybody who lived off tithes was not allowed to own or inherit property. We pick and choose what parts of the OT to keep. Tithign is OK; multiple marriages, unclean food adn Saturday Sabbath are not OK. Very convenient.
