THE POWER OF FOCUS – Part 2

How Do We Set The Goal?

Using the S.M.A.R.T.E.R way of God.

1. Specifically
Goals must be specific. The goals give you the power, energy and definite ideas on what you want to achieve. Only clear goals lead to solid achievements. If you do not have any clear goals, you will not know whether you have achieved it and reached you destiny.

2. Measureable
If you cannot measure your goals, how you can measure your progress? The goals must be quantifiable so that you know how far or short you are at reaching your target.

3. Action Plans
This is where you state the actions you have to take to reach your goals. List down the actions and steps as clearly as possible from the beginning to the end.

4. Realistic
You have to realistic when you set your goals. Sometimes, your imagination can soar and be out of control. Dreams are things you have no control over them. When you are dreaming, you can be whatever you want to be. Goals are things you have control over. You have to ask yourself whether the goal is doable or attainable. Is the goal realistic? Set your goals with time. For example, how many hours you want to set aside for praying each day.

Proverbs 24:3-4 (NIV) says that “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” God may go beyond reasons but God is not against common sense. Do not build a tower that you do not have an ability to finish if you do not feel the power of God to build. Do not set goals you cannot realistically achieve with your own strength or within your own means. Learn to keep in steps with the Holy Spirit, one step at a time with God.

5. Time Frame
Be time conscious. Determine when your goal must be attained. Goals that are time sensitive do not allow you to procrastinate. Keep pace with your steps.

6. Expectation Management
You need to be flexible and willing to change your plan when it is not working. Your goals are just a guide. Proverbs 13:19 (NLT) mentions that “It is pleasant to see dreams come true, but fools refuse to turn from evil to attain them.” Here, the Bible is saying that the fools refuse to give up their bad plan to achieve their goals. If the horse is dead, dismount the horse. You can’t ride on a dead horse. You get no way with a dead horse that does not move. There is no such thing as a perfect plan. We are not perfect people. If things are not succeeding, it is okay to change plan.

7. Revelation
For whom am I here for? Is it about God, your creator? How are your goals going to fix into God’s plan? Paul was successful in setting up churches and he was also a tentmaker. He was set to go to Rome. He knew that he would be jailed and lost his business. Yet he received a revelation that the Gospel through him would change the western world. Paul when was arrested, he had the strength to go through because he had a rhema word from God. Ask God to give you a revelation of what you are to do for Him.

Today, will you ask God to help you evaluate your situation, your life goal, your career plan, your family plan and etc? If you are in a point in your life right now and not knowing what to do and how to move forward, will you go before God now and ask Him to reveal to you His plan, His will for you which is a sure direction to His kingdom. If you are willing, will you say this prayer with me right now:

Father God, I know not where to go and what to do. But the Bible says that I am inscribed in the palms of Your Hands and my life has already been written in the Book of Life even before I was born. Please reveal to me today your divine plan for my life in all aspects and teach me to plan and to be focused in fulfilling them right now. Thank you, Jesus for your guidance and for watching over me. Amen.
