And Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:17
Several years ago, a movie was made called Field of Dreams. The story is about a man who had a vision to build a baseball field in the middle of a cornfield on his rural farm. He did not know why; he just knew he was to do it. To the chagrin of his neighbors, he built the baseball diamond in the farm community. One night some players showed up. The man realized these were no ordinary players, but were actually the great players from the past. When the skeptical neighbors came to view this phenomenon, they were unable to see what the farm owner could see. This made it even worse for him. Now he was really a lunatic in their eyes. (more…)

Be still and know that I am God….Psalms 46:10
There is a time and place in our walk with God in which He sets us in a place of waiting. It is a place in which all past experiences are of no value. It is a time of such stillness that it can disturb the most faithful if we do not understand that He is the one who has brought us to this place for only a season. It is as if God has placed a wall around us. No new opportunities–simply inactivity. (more…)

2. The Bible
What the Bible is not:
- The Bible is not an amulet, a charm, a fetish, or anything to work wonders by its very presence alone. It does not claim to be such; it does claim that if one will study and practice its teaching he will see wonders worked in his life both now and in the hereafter.
- The Bible is not a book of chronological events or an unbroken series of divine utterances. It was given, here a little and there a little, to many men through 18 centuries (Isaiah 28:9-11); but regardless of this, it forms a perfect unity.
- The Bible is not a book of heavenly utterances in supernatural language; it is God’s revelation in the simplest human language possible.
- The Bible is not a book of mysteries; it explains its so-called mysteries, and is so self-interpreting that no mystery remains.
- The Bible is not a book that says one thing and means another. Generally, the passages have one simple meaning. In the few which have a double meaning, this fact is quite clear, either from the verses themselves or from parallel passages. One cannot, as is sometimes said, get a thousand different meanings from the Scriptures.
- The Bible is not a specimen of God’s skill as a writer or logician. It is a book written by men whom He used to record His revelation. The method was by giving them ways of expressing truth, and freedom in the use of their own language. What inspiration guarantees in unity of truth, not sameness of words and expressions.
- The Bible is not a book of systematic discourses on any one subject; but it does give divine information on practically every subject. One must collect together, from here and there, all God’s information through various writers, in order to know the whole truth. When this is done, there is perfect harmony, and everything which a man really needs to know about a subject, is clear.
- The Bible is not a book adapted to the tastes, customs, and habits of any one nation or people; it is not for any one age or period of time. It is a book to which all people in all ages can conform, and yet retain their own lawful customs and habits which are not contrary to the will of God. (more…)

Heaven and earth shall pass away; but my words shall not pass away. Romans 4:16
There are many things in life in which we find will transcend and pass away. When I was young, I always wonder whether there is anything in this world that truly lasts forever. As look at sad events around me and even temporary happiness, I see that they never truly last forever. When I was a young believer, I always have pounding questions about God, the Bible, and especially the Bible with its longstanding history. Is it possible for one such book containing so many stories actually last through thousands of years? Who wrote the Bible? If the Bible is the Word of Bible, why did God record so many things for us to read? I have problem reading an entire magazine for long before I put it down once I hit a boring article. Let’s admit it, how many of you Christians out there can truly say you have read the Bible cover-to-cover at least once since you became a Christian? (more…)

Some years ago a doctor asked an elderly Christian woman in England, “If I asked God for five pounds, would I get it?”
The old woman answered with a question. “If you were introduced to the Prince of Wales, would you ask him for money at once?”
“No, not till I knew him better,” replied the doctor.
“Well,” remarked the woman, “you will need to know God a great deal better before you can expect Him to answer your prayer.”
Someone commented on this incident by observing, “Many people presume to ask God for things upon mere acquaintance with Him.” Isn’t that often the case? (more…)
