Thinking With Excellence - Part 1
2 Peter 1:5-7; 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
In this article, we will look at how we can think with excellence. We will look at how different thinking and mindset will cause you to do things differently. These new thinking will distinguish from other people. It will make you the salt of the earth and light of the world.
Right thinking will result in right method.
Right thinking will result in right behaviour.
If you want your life to change and outwardly you want to see a manifestation of a different kind of environment, you got to begin from inside out. You got to change the way you think. In 2 Peter 1:5-7, you see seven stages of spiritual development in our initial faith in Christ. Peter said to our faith, we have to add:
1. Virtue
2. Knowledge
3. Self-control
4. Perseverance
5. Godliness
6. Brotherly kindness
7. Love
The first thing we must add to our faith is virtue. The word “Virtue” in Greek is Arête. Arête means excellence. It is from here we understand that after we become a Christian, we put our faith in Jesus Christ, God expects we progress and move on to excellence. Excellence is such an important topic in the bible for it is mentioned 70 times. It is a major bible concept. Just how important is excellence? What does the bible has to say about excellence? Let’s put it this way. The bible has not one good thing to say about laziness or foolishness. We have to understand that laziness and foolishness are severely condemned and even more deadly in its consequence than drunkenness. So, excellence is very important.
What is the definition of excellence? Excellence means to EXCEED a given standard that is ordinary, average, terrible or unworthy. In another words, it is to exceed a given standard that is mediocre, average or ordinary. There is another way of describing excellence. It means to be superior in QUALITY, greater in QUANTITY, to TRANSCEND your job description and to OUTDO yourself each time.
We will go into each in details in the next parts.

This is a very nice post and blog. We, as Christians, really need to work at excellence if we are going to make a difference in the world. God bless.
