Thinking With Excellence - Part 7
Excellence Is To Outdo Yourself Each Time
Some people mistakenly expect that after they become a Christian, God will show them special favours. They think that the teachers will be less strict with their papers so they pray that God please help their teachers to be blind, even if the answer is wrong, the teacher will mark it correct. Some teachings may say that if you are a Christian, all things will be successful and you will have no problems in life. It will be bliss. Do you think this is favour? Let me tell you. It doesn’t work that way in life. In fact, it is the other way round. Now that you are a Christian, you have all the resources in your hands that you didn’t have before. You now have the word of God and the Holy Spirit to guide you. You have the power of prayer. You have the wisdom from heaven above to draw upon for James said that those who lack wisdom can ask of God freely and it will be given to you freely without reproach.
Previously, you can pass your test or succeed in your work without all these resources but now you should be twice successful after being a Christian. God does not expect less of you. He expects more of you. You should be outdoing yourself. You should be more productive than you used to be. Whatever field of work you are in, you should be more reliable and efficient than the rest of the people.
There is only one way to build a church – satisfied members, one at a time. There is only one way to build a business – satisfied customers, one at a time. Customer satisfaction can be summed up in two words – exceed expectations. Why are we in church today? It’s because of the God we serve. He is a God who does exceedingly, abundantly above than we can ever ask or imagine. God always exceed our expectations. When we are faithless, He remains faithful. When we understand that we have to keep outdoing ourselves for our God is an excellent God, and then we are on our way to have excellent thinking and success.
If you are road sweeper, you will sweep the floor as though the whole heaven is watching you. You are sweeping the floor so well that the angels will stop and watch you doing a quality work. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:5-6, “Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free.” What do you mean by “not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers”? It means you don’t do it only when someone is watching you. You are not doing it to please men. You are not doing it when someone is supervising you. You do it for God knowing that whatever good you do, you will receive the same from the Lord. So, if you are blue collar worker, white collar worker, middle management, top management, executive, no matter what it is, you must be the best in your workplace.
